Responsible for SBA Loan portfolio management including but not limited to:

  • Financial Reporting and Covenant Tracking; Loan renewal tracking; Risk mitigation strategies; Loan Underwriting; Renewals; Loan Advances. Maintain awareness of maturing credits, overdue payments, financial information reporting; etc, which could affect the status of the SBA relationships and take appropriate action.
  • Train and lead other Portfolio Managers and lenders in regard to clients they are supporting who have SBA Guarantees on their loan transactions.  This includes Commercial PMs and lenders when SBA guarantees are involved.
  • Coach and mentor SBA Loan Processors on appropriate process for completions on 10 tab packages. Review and approve completed 10 tab packages to be submitted to the SBA to ensure collection of guarantees.
  • Act as the primary back up for the SBA Program Manager.  In the absence of the Program Manager, assist in the structuring of loan transactions requiring SBA approval.  Ensures that knowledge of the SBA SOP is current to ensure the Bank adheres to SBA guidelines.
  • Review and recommend improvements to the overall SBA Process in the back end of the credit shop to improve efficiency, reduce risk and improve customer experience.
  • Represents the Bank through participation in various community and industry activities.  Actively promotes the interest of the Bank whenever possible.

Job Requirements

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Accounting, Finance or equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Related credit skills, preferred
  • 7+ years of Portfolio Management experience
  • Significant training and experience with SBA loans, both 7a and 504 loans, of all sizes


  • Demonstrated experience, knowledge and judgment with structure, credit decisions and analysis
  • Ability to train and lead lenders, community members on SBA and Eastern Bank
  • Able to grasp and understand C&I and CRE concepts and structures
  • Able to coach and mentor SBA loan processors and analysts to develop skills
  • Able to prepare comprehensive, cohesive, detailed written analysis and narrative
