The Commercial Credit Manager I is responsible for hiring, training and mentoring a group of Credit Analysts who will perform credit analysis and underwriting on commercial loan offerings in accordance with Eastern Bank's credit culture.

In this role, you will be responsible for the following:
  • Standard managerial responsibilities in consultation with SVP Commercial Credit, including staffing, performance reviews, promotion and salary recommendations, terminations and mentoring of credit analysts;
  • Supervision of the credit analysis functions of the Corporate Credit Department, including:
    • Coordinates and/or conducts all training activities/programs for the credit analysts to develop and analyze credit and financial performance information pertaining to all types of commercial lending accounts.
    • Reviews and revises the training program to assure a strong and current value to the analysts and the organization.
    • Conducts final review of the financial analyses presentations prepared by Phase I credit analysts before a lender review.
    • Manages workflow of the credit underwriting team to completion and assigns tasks to the appropriate employees in a timely and efficient manner.
    • Manages and prepares month production and pipeline reporting for team.
  • Underwriting duties for complex credits
    • Assists with underwriting for complex credits to assure depth of analysis strength within team.
    • Uses these underwriting scenarios as training opportunities for analyst team.
    • Hands on and familiar use with financial spreading software, loan system, and other credit resources and research tools.
  • Direct support to Senior Commercial Credit officers in areas of credit management and underwriting:
    • Participates in monthly department meetings.
    • Provides input for rotations of credit analysts by evaluating the skill level required and the needs of different divisions.
    • Oversees participant bank analysis.
    • Coordinates with teams to assure credit coverage and support between Boston and NH analyst teams.
    • Assists with Portfolio Manager training and acts as liaison with lending team PMs.
    • Reviews and proposes enhancements to credit related procedures, controls, and underwriting guidelines as appropriate.
    • Participates in Bank projects as requested.
  • Loan Origination System support
    • Facilitates system use, consistency of content and acts as resource for credit and lending teams.
    • Assists with internal training related to the system.
    • Proposes enhancements to the system if needed.

Job Requirements

Education:

  • A minimum of a four-year college degree in business or finance field; or equivalent experience.

Experience:

  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in the Commercial Lending field in either lending, portfolio management, risk review or credit analysis. 
  • Must have strong computer skills, strong organizational and communication skills, strong risk assessment skills and in-depth knowledge on the Bank’s Credit Policy.
