Job Description

The purpose of this position is to support the centralized management of real estate appraisal and environmental due diligence requirements under existing policy and applicable laws and regulations.  The position will provide a separate and independent function from the lending area in the selection, ordering, reviewing, and accepting of real estate appraisals, evaluations and environmental reports.  While this position will include both appraisal and environmental due diligence, the primary focus of this position will relate to the environmental due diligence process.  Additionally, this position will enhance ongoing risk management to Corporate Credit via portfolio monitoring and reporting. 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Review of third party reports
  • Assisting in the review process for the ongoing review of appraisals, evaluations and environmental reports performed by independent third party  firms, the incumbent;
  • Provides initial Environmental Due diligence screening of incoming requests.
  • Assists in the external review of reports through third party vendors and approves external reports for Eastern Bank use.
  • Assists in the ongoing compliance to applicable Eastern Bank policy and regulations.
  • Mitigates potential losses due to environmental conditions or valuation errors.
  • Assists in the determination of the quality and content appropriateness of appraisals and environmental findings.
  • The review role is anticipated to increase in scope and report level based on experience and additional related coursework.
  • Selection and ordering of report and reviews 
  • Provides support in the selection of the appropriate appraisal/environmental firm for each assignment based on applicable qualifications, experience, education, and underwriting requirements of specific loans. 
  • Considerations include. Appropriate report format/scope of report/property rights to be appraised on each assignment. Property type, exposure as well as property specific and/ or loan specific requirements. Bid requests including the preparation and delivery of bid requests to external vendors
 


 
 
 

Job Requirements

Education and Experience

•Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Sciences preferred or significant experience in environmental due diligence
•2 – 3 years of environmental related experience in Environmental Remediation/Phase one development/review

Skills/Knowledge
•Individual should be knowledgeable in ASTM Standards, MassDEP regulations (Mass Contingency Plan) along with Federal environmental regulations.

•Individual should be proficient in standard Office products (Excel/Word)
•Ability to research items through internet sources
•Analytical skills required
•Attentive to detail
•Ability to multi-task
•Strong business writing skills
