The Accounting Policy Manager is responsible for the understanding of and compliance with existing U.S. GAAP and the implementation of new accounting standards. Administers and directs all steps necessary to ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP. This position will have contact with senior-level employees which requires strong interpersonal communication skills both written and verbal.  This position will work closely with the Company’s external and internal auditors to ensure compliance with accounting standards and Company policies.

This position will also assist with other accounting functions such as stock options and equity-based compensation, mergers and acquisitions, and other technical accounting topics.

Ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP:
•Communicate and explain accounting issues and evolving accounting guidance to the management team.
•Maintain Accounting Policy Manual that documents the Company’s accounting policies and procedures and work with the Director of Financial Reporting and the Director of Accounting Operations to ensure compliance.
•Determine the requirements and implementation plan for the adoption of new accounting pronouncements.

Work with the Company’s external auditors.

Perform technical accounting functions including:
•Support mergers and acquisitions activity including due diligence and preparation of purchase accounting.
•Review of Eastern Insurance Group purchase accounting activities.
•Prepare accounting entries associated with stock options and other equity-based compensation.
•Account for the Company’s pension plans
•Evaluate tax-credit investments for proper accounting treatment.
•Fund capital contributions for tax-credit investments as necessary.

Support month-end and year-end closing activities
•Perform fluctuation analysis and other month-end/year-end activities as needed.

Job Requirements

Education and Experience 
•Bachelor's degree or higher in Accounting.
•CPA with at least 10 years of public accounting and/or corporate accounting experience. 
•Excellent knowledge of U.S. GAAP is required combined with the ability to research and propose company positions on complex accounting issues.

•Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
•Thorough understanding of U.S. GAAP.
•Strong communications, documentation and presentation skills.
•Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word is essential.
