The Commercial Real Estate Relationship Manager is responsible for managing a portfolio of lending relationships with a view to providing a quality service to valued clients and originating new banking relationships with Commercial Real Estate businesses. As a Relationship Manager, the incumbent will monitor credit exposure and cross-sell other bank products. Must be proficient balancing multiple assignments and responsibilities in a team oriented environment focused on client delivery to high standards.

Incumbent originates and manages commercial banking relationships representing significant credit exposure to the Bank. Incumbent is responsible for recommending loan pricing and structure. Incumbent is responsible for negotiating loan commitments, credit agreements including loan covenants and default provisions. Incumbent sells complex interest rate hedge products along with cash management products.

The Commercial Real Estate Relationship Manager will be responsible for acquiring new and managing existing large and potentially complex commercial banking relationships. Key components of these responsibilities include:

1) Credit Underwriting

Review existing credit facilities and new credit applications, analyze credit quality and make recommendations as to how to structure and price these facilities. Present relevant data and recommendations to the Team Leader and Credit Committee when appropriate. Work with legal counsel to facilitate documentation of credit facilities.

2) Portfolio Management

Maintain awareness of maturing credits, overdue payments, financial information reporting; etc, which could affect the status of the commercial relationships and take appropriate action. Work with Portfolio Managers to ensure that financial information is collected on a timely basis and that credit exposure is properly rated reflecting credit quality over time.  Maintain frequent contact with the clients and serve as representative of EB ensuring that the client’s deposit, cash management, insurance and investment management needs are being properly handled.

3) Business Development

Participate in business development efforts identifying appropriate prospects and make personal calls on present and prospective customers under the direction of a Team Leader. Take a leadership role in business and community activities, such as REFA, RELA, ULI & NAIOP etc.

Education and Experience   

  • College degree (4years) required, preferably in a business-related discipline. Proven underwriting abilities, including 5 plus years’ experience in commercial real estate analysis and/or commercial banking. Formal bank credit training preferred.


  • Familiarity with top tier and middle market commercial real estate companies within the New England marketplace. 
  • Incumbent should be able to excel with integrity in an entrepreneurial, team-oriented environment. Incumbent should be energetic and comfortable in an environment offering base salary plus performance-oriented compensation.
  • Proficient/computer literate in Microsoft Word/Excel and Argus etc. with the willingness/ability to learn new software as necessary.
